Geoff Platt is one of the most popular and richest Ice Hockey Player who was born on July 10, 1985 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Geoff Platt (born July 10 in 1985) is a Belarusian-Canadian ice hockey player at present playing for Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

The 26th of February, 2012 after five years of playing in the KHL’s Dinamo Minsk, Platt accepted Belarusian citizenship.

Platt is married to Finnish native Mia Platt since June 2015. They reside in Tampere, Finland during the off-season.

On August 16, 2015, a few days before the start of the new KHL season, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl broke the contract with him. Lokomotiv’s general manager explained this by the uncertain legal status of foreign players in KHL (Lokomotiv had signed 6 foreign players including him while the limit of foreign players for the Russian clubs is only 5 players in the roster) and by Geoff’s lack of the Russian passport. Two days later he signed a contract with CSKA Moscow.

Growing up from Canada, Platt played major junior hockey in Canada’s Ontario Hockey League before spending many years playing for his home province of the NHL along with its Minor League counterpart, the American Hockey League (AHL). In 2008, Platt received an invitation to sign up with Ilves in Finland while playing briefly in Belarus before that. He was in Finland for a season, after which he returned to Minsk in the year following, and he played for five seasons playing for Dinamo before being sold to Lokomotiv in 2013. Platt was previously a member of the Canadian national team under-18 which won gold in 2003 at the IIHF World U18 Championships, in 2012, however, he gained Belarusian citizenship and, having met all International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) standards, was eligible to represent Belarus in this year’s IIHF World Championship held in Minsk.

When he was a kid, Platt played in the 1999 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament as a player on a minor ice hockey squad that came from North York.

Platt was part of Canada’s Canadian national team for under-18s during the 2003 IIHF World U18 Championships. The forward scored 3 goals over seven games, as Canada took home an Olympic gold medal. After having obtained Belarusian citizen status in the year 2012, and spending the necessary duration of games within Belarus, Platt became eligible to represent Belarus in 2014. His first IIHF tournament in where he represented Belarus included his participation in the 2014 World Championship, which was played in Minsk. Platt recorded three goals, and had two assists in the tournament. Belarus placed seventh in the competition.

In the 2013–14 season, as leading scorer of Dinamo Minsk in the midst of his 6th season with the club, Platt was traded to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl for monetary compensation on December 30, 2013. He was later signed to a two-year contract extension with Lokomotiv through to the 2016 season on January 3, 2014.
