The mother of her child, Lisa Hansen, was also an Olympic rower who competed in the coxed quadruple sculls for women in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. The father of her, Gregg Stone, was the best U.S. single sculler in 1980, and could have been an Olympian himself had there had been no boycott by the U.S. had not boycotted the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. The parents of both her were part of the U.S. National Rowing Team. While Gevvie had been in the highschool her mother Lisa helped her out with her team from high school in Winsor School. Winsor School, and Lisa is still the coach of Winsor’s Rowing team to this day. Her father Gregg is her current coach.

In the 2016 Summer Olympics, Gevvie won the silver medal in the single sculls. She also participated in the single sculls event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in which she was 1st in Final B and 7th overall.

In 2011 Gevvie was 13th in single sculls for women at the World Rowing Cup III and 11th in the women’s single sculls in the World Rowing Championships. The year before, Gevvie finished 3rd in the women’s quadruple sculls competition in the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta and 8th in women’s singles Sculls in the World Rowing Cup II. In 2014, two years later, Gevvie placed 4th in the World Rowing Championship. She finished second in the World Rowing Cup II, 3rd in the World Rowing Cup III, and 4th at the World Rowing Championships all for single sculls for women. She finished second in the World Rowing Cup II for women’s singlesculls. She then took home the silver medal in Rio.
