Gary Lamell Ward (born December 6 1953) is an ex- American professional baseball player who played outfield in Major League Baseball from 1979 until 1990 with the Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, and Detroit Tigers. Ward is also the dad of former Major League player Daryle Ward.
Ward has been an instructor for Minor League Baseball for several teams of the Chicago White Sox organization; the Charlotte Knights (1999-2001 and 2009-2010), Winston-Salem Dash (2011-2012 and 2014), Birmingham Barons (2013) along with Arizona League White Sox (2015-2017).
Ward was a two-time AL All-Star—1983 and 1985. For his career, he had a .276 batting average, 130 home runs, 1,236 hits, 597 RBI, 594 runs, 196 doubles, 41 triples, and 83 stolen bases in 1,287 games played.
In his debut season in Texas, Ward hit .284 with 21 HR and 79 RBI as well as setting the club record for season with seven triples, as well as a personal record of 97 runs that he scored. He was the top hitter for the Rangers with his bat in both 1985 and in the year 1986 (.287 and .316 respectively) Then, he was signed by the Yankees as an unrestricted free agent. Ward was accepted to Minnesota to become an amateur free agent 1972 . He made his debut in the major leagues during the season of 1979, when he was a part of 10-games for the Twins.
