Gary Smyth (born 20 December 1969 in Belfast) is an Northern Irish former footballer and manager. He played as a center at back with Glentoran, Glenavon, Ballymena and Crusaders. He was the manager of Harland & Wolff Welders F.C. between November 24, 2013 and he was appointed Assistant Manager of Glentoran on May 24, 2018. He was appointed manager on January 3rd, 2019, taking over Ronnie McFall. The manager was succeeded by Mick McDermott on 31 March 2019 and then resigned from the team on May 21, 2019.
Smyth was the manager of H&W Welders between 2013 and 2018. He was a highly effective manager. He resigned on May 23, 2018, after a successful tenure.
Smyth was dismissed from H&W Welders to join his former team Glentoran The move became official on 24 May, 2018. Smyth was initially hired in the role of assistant manager for the newly appointed Ronnie McFall, where the goal was to advance Smyth once he had the required qualifications. Paul Leeman also joined Smyth in the arrangement. However, McFall quit earlier than he had planned after a poor performance which led to Smyth to take over as manager. Smyth was in charge from the 3rd of January to 30 March 2019 after which McDermott was appointed his replacement. Mick McDermott. Smyth was reinstated to the position as assistant manager, however Smyth didn’t make it back to the dug- out , and he was dismissed by the club in controversial circumstances on the 21st of May 2019 with Leeman going home two days after. Smyth expressed his anger over how he was received by his club.

Smickers joined Glentoran after leaving Holywood in 1988. He won many trophies, and staying there until 1995 after which he joined Glenavon and enjoyed greater success after which he returned the club to The Oval in 2000. He was named the Ulster footballer of the year in the 2003/2002 season. The year 2007 saw him signed with the Crusaders initial on loan but then a permanent move.
He was awarded 4 Irish Cup winners’ medals including Glentoran in 2004; Glenavon in 1997 as well as Crusaders in 2009. He retired on the 9th of May 2009 after an Irish Cup final.
