Gary Ivan Mercer (born 22 June 1966) is a New Zealand rugby league and rugby union coach, as well as a former professional footballer in the rugby league. He is a New Zealand international representative player He has spent the majority of his time in Britain as a player and coach. He was a former coach of the defence for Glasgow Warriors and a former coach for the SRU who was employed in the Scottish Rugby Academy. In March of 2016 the coach is head coach at Biggar RFC.
Mercer played the role of coach-player of The Halifax Blue Sox, and coach of the Castleford Tigers, his first game in charge took place on the 25th of April 2004 and his last game while in charge occurred on the 18th September 2004.
He left the Scottish academy in August 2014 to have a brief spell running Yorkshire Carnegie.
