Gilliam started his second year as the left tackle backup to Russell Okung. After right tackle Justin Britt was unable to perform at a high level during the preseason, Gilliam was moved into the starting spot and was awarded the position two weeks prior to the opening game of the season with the St. Louis Rams. Britt was later moved to left guard and the former right guard Alvin Bailey taking Gilliam’s former job as a the backup left tackle. Through the first five weeks of the season, Britt was ranked 74th offensive tackle when it came to blocking the pass and the 66th-ranked in run blocking. From weeks 5 through 10, he was 75th for pass protection and 61st for run protection. He was in the bottom ten percent of teams throughout the season.

Gilliam is signed with the Seattle Seahawks on May 10 the 10th of May, 2014 after being not selected during the 2014 NFL Draft. On May 11 14, 2014 they Seahawks announced that they had signed Gilliam to a 3-year, $1.54 million free agent undrafted contract that comes with the sign-on bonus worth $12,000.

On January 18, 2015, Gilliam caught a 19-yard touchdown pass on a fake field goal attempt from punter Jon Ryan during the Seahawks’ 28-22 overtime NFC Championship Game victory over the Green Bay Packers. It was his first career reception and touchdown.

On December 4, 2016, it was reported that Gilliam, who had started the previous 27 games, had lost his starting right tackle position to Sowell during the week and would be a healthy scratch for the following game against the Carolina Panthers. On December 15, 2016, the Seahawks benched Sowell in the fourth quarter of a 24-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams and had Gilliam enter the game in his place. He remained the starting right tackle for the last two games of the season and finished his last season with the team appearing in 14 games with 13 starts.

Gilliam completed his NFL debut as offensive lineman on the 4th of September, 2014 with the Green Bay Packers. On the 5th of October in 2014, he made his debut as a left guard in the second quarter of the Seahawks match with the Oakland Raiders after James Carpenter was injured in the ankle. Then, in the NFC Championship Game against the Packers, Gilliam caught his first touchdown of his career in the 3rd half of the game from kicker Jon Ryan. In his rookie season Gilliam was able to play in 14 games following several injuries sustained by offensive linemen.

Garry Montzell Gilliam Jr. (born on 26th November in 1990) is an ex- American football offensive lineman. He was initially signed as a non-drafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks after the 2014 NFL Draft. He played for the college team in the NCAA Division at Penn State.

Gilliam was a player on his Penn State Nittany Lions football team from 2009 until 2013. He was a tight end from 2009 until his senior year. Prior to his senior year, the Head coach Bill O’Brien if he could change to offensive tackle as he was confident that it would increase his chances of participating for the NFL. He was able to successfully switch into the tackle position and played playing for the Nittany Lions throughout his senior season.
