Nixon was selected in The Green Bay Packers in the fourth round of the 1980 NFL Draft and played two seasons for the team. Nixon was back for a third year, however, he was put as an injured reserve roster due to a stress fracture in his foot on the 24th of August 1982 and throughout the 1982 season. The Packers let him go on March 2, 1983.
