Haith once again led Miami into in the NIT in 2005. The Hurricanes took the initial two games, before bowing out by losing against the Michigan Wolverines. It was the first time in the history of Miami’s basketball that the Hurricanes have won consecutive postseason games.
Haith reached just one NCAA Tournament as the head coach at Miami, leading the Hurricanes to a second-round appearance in 2008. The next season, Haith’s team returned four starters, including sharpshooter Jack McClinton. Miami began the season ranked 16th in the USA Today/ESPN pre-season poll, and the media picked it to finish fourth in the ACC. However, Miami finished below .500 in conference play and missed the NCAA Tournament, instead participating in the NIT. The following season, Haith’s team finished in last place in the ACC.
On April 4, 2011, Haith accepted the head coaching job at the University of Missouri.
Haith was appointed on April 11, 2004, and was given the task of managing his team of Hurricanes towards their first season in the Atlantic Coast Conference. In his first year, Haith took a team which was coming off two consecutive loss seasons. He was picked as the last team in the ACC and then guided the team to the playoffs in the very first time since. The result was that Haith was named a finalist for award of the Naismith National Coach of the Year Award.

Prior to his appointment at Miami, Haith had been an assistant coach for 15 years in such institutions such as Texas, Texas A&M, UNCW, Penn State, Wake Forest, and Elon University. He was an assistant coach, he brought in Six McDonald’s All-Americans, Rodney Rogers in 1990 from Wake Forest, Jerald Brown in 1995 to Texas A&M, Bradley Buckman in 2002 to Texas and LaMarcus Aldridge in 2003 to Texas, Daniel Gibson, and Michael Williams in 2004 to Texas.
Haith has also guided the Hurricanes to great success off the court. Under Haith’s guidance there have been eight Miami seniors who have reached their full academic requirements have received their diplomas. Miami has also put three athletes as part of the ACC All-Academic basketball team during the 2004-2005 basketball season, more than any other school within the conference.
Haith is a 1988 graduate of Elon University (then Elon College). He and his wife, Pam, have two children; one son, Corey, and one daughter, Brianna. Haith’s nephew, Sean Bell, was killed by New York City police in a controversial November 25, 2006 shooting incident.
