From 1980 to 1989 Busch played as a coach in from 1980 to 1989 at the University of Cincinnati. From 1989 until 2011 he was the head coach of swimming of the Arizona Wildcats at the University of Arizona. The Wildcats’ swimmers took home the team 49 NCAA individual titles as well as 31, NCAA relay championships, as well as two NCAA individual championships. While at Arizona He also led Tucson Ford Aquatics (previously Hillenbrand Aquatics) to numerous national team championships.

Frank Busch (born February 4 1951) is an American national team and Olympic swimmer from his home country of the United States. He was an instructor on both the USA Olympic teams in 2004 as well as in 2008.

Busch started his career as a coach at 16 , in Edgewood, Kentucky. After seven years of summer season coaching for the league at Brookwood Swim Club and four years as an AAU coach in the Northern Kentucky Piranhas, he was hired by the Cincinnati Marlins for the 1979-80 season as Assistant Head Coach. The Marlins took home their first National Team Championship that season and also placed six swimmers on in the 1981 United States Olympic Team.

In May 2011, Busch began serving as USA Swimming’s National Team Director, providing the overall vision and leadership for the sport’s top coaches and athletes. Under his tenure, USA Swimming won 31 medals at the London Games (2012) and 33 medals at the Rio Games (2016). In both of these Summer Games, USA Swimming’s successful campaigns represented 30% of Team USA’s total medal count.
