Franco Harris is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks. He was born in Fort Dix, New Jersey, on March 7, 1950, the son of an Army sergeant. Harris attended Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly, New Jersey, where he was a star athlete in football, basketball, and track. He accepted a football scholarship to Penn State University, where he played for the Nittany Lions from 1968 to 1971. As a junior, he was a consensus All-American and helped lead Penn State to an undefeated season and a national championship. Harris was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 1972 NFL Draft. He had a stellar rookie season, rushing for 1,055 yards and 10 touchdowns. Harris went on to play 12 seasons for the Steelers, compiling over 10,000 rushing yards and scoring 100 touchdowns. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 1976. Harris retired after the 1983 season and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990.
