Filippo Giorgi (born February 9 1959) is an Italian scientist and editor of 19 chapters and more than 250 peer-reviewed research papers which were published in journals such like the Journal of Geophysical Research, Climate Dynamics and many others.

In 2018, he was awarded in 2018 the Alexander von Humboldt Medal from the European Geosciences Union for outstanding research in the area of modeling the effects of climate changes on regional scales.

He was appointed head of the department because of his promotion to the National Center for Atmospheric Research where he was a professor from September 1992 until 1997. In the intervening years, the professor was a visiting lecturer in the Joint Research Centre in Ispra throughout the year of

From July 1994 until April 1998, he worked at the university he attended and this time as a the third scientist. From 1994 to 1998, he worked as an senior scientist at the Abdus Salams’ International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste. From May 1998 to August 2005, he served as chief of the Physics of Weather and Climate Group in the same facility and from April 2002 until September 2008, he was vice-chair for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) An organization that co-received the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. In September 2005, he is director of the Earth System Physics Section of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics.

He also was employed at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado from same month of 1984 through June 1986. Then, he was postdoctoral fellow at the same institution, and continued until the end of October in 1987. From the beginning of the month in the same year, he was the first scientist at the institute and then became the second scientist in July of

1991. This was a position he held until the end of his three-year tenure.
