She competed at her first Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Irvine and finished 19th in the 50-metre backstroke, 23rd for the 100-metre backstroke and 23rd in 200-metre backstroke.
Integrating Brazilian national delegation that disputed the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Alvarenga was at the 200-metre backstroke final, finishing in 8th place.
The 4th of September, 2008 she set the Brazilian record for the backstroke 200 meters (long course) by a time of 2:15.43. The 7th of May, 2009 she broke her South American record in the 200-meter backstroke (long course) by achieving 2:12.32. In the 2007 Pan American Games, in Rio de Janeiro, Alvarenga took bronze in the 4×100 meter Medley when she took part in the heats. The result was revoked because of Rebeca Gusmao’s drug use. She also participated in the 100-metre backstroke, which she made it to the semifinals but, in her battery, she came in 6th and was unable to gain no chance to compete in the finals. She finished in 12th overall. Alvarenga was also part of the 200-metre backstroke in which she reached the semifinals, but finished 4th in her battery, but was unable to make it to compete in the final.
At the 2010 South American Games, she obtained the gold medal in the 200-metre backstroke.
