She is also the currently Olympic champion in 1500 m women’s event, having been awarded at the Rio Olympics on August 16th, 2016. She took home an Olympic gold medal during the 2017 World Championships and the silver medal at the 2019 World Championships.
At the 2012 World Junior Championships in Barcelona where she took home the gold medal ahead of her competitors with an impressive time of 4:04.96 The Serbian Amela Terzic as well as the Ethiopian Teferi Senbere came in the 2nd and 3rd places. She was a finalist to compete in the Olympics in 2012 Summer Olympics for the 1500 meters for women in London however she failed to get into the finals.
In 2014, she won the gold medal in the 4 × 1500 m Relay at the first IAAF World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, along with Mercy Cherono, Irene Jelagat and Hellen Obiri. The Kenya team, ahead of the United States and Australia, improved the World Record time to 16:33.58. She also won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
On 11 September 2015, at Diamond League finale in Brussels, Kipyegon won the mile in 4:16.71, beating Sifan Hassan, who finished in 4:18.20., in the final stretch.
She also is the Commonwealth champion after winning an award of gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland with the time of 4 minutes 08.94 seconds. She was awarded an award of gold at the World Youth Championships in Athletics and also another gold medal later in the one during the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics. In the 2012 Summer Olympics she took part in the women’s 1500 meter race but was placed 8th place in 3rd heat. She was not able to make the finals. She took first place in the junior women’s race at the World Cross Country Championships in 2013. She was a participant during the 2012 World Championships in Athletics and finished 5th in the finals with the time of 4:05.08.
