On June 5, 2018 Benko moved from Austrian Bundesliga side LASK Linz as a free- transfer, and the club signed him to a three-year contract. In the following month, he was one of the 100 nominees in the Golden Boy award. Benko made his debut for the club on the 29th of July in the 78th minute, as substitution in the final minutes for Peter Michorl, in the 3-1 loss away against Red Bull Salzburg.

Benko was born in Munich in the city of his Croatian parents Benko was a part of Bayern Munich in 2005 when he turned just seven. He was able to progress through the academy section of the club and was given an apprenticeship contract on the 3rd September, 2015. The contract’s terms became effective in June of the following year, which obligated Benko to the club for a period of 2018. In January of 2016, Benko was one of five academy players selected by the manager Pep Guardiola to join the senior team to Doha during their mid- season tour and then later on in a preseason tour of China.
