He was chosen as a representative of American Samoa at the 1994 Winter Olympics as part of an bobsleigh duo with brakeman Brad Kiltz. It was the first time that American Samoa had sent athletes to the Winter Olympic Games. The two were directed by the late William “Buddy” Hoblak. The first time they ran, Muagututia and Kiltz were 41st of 43 sleds with an average in the range of 55.57 seconds. In the second race, they placed 41st again with a quicker time in the range of 55.25 seconds. They moved up to 37th in run three, with the time that was 55.06 seconds. In the fourth and final lap, they came 38th in a speed that was 55.16 seconds. Overall , they placed 39th in an average run time of 31.04 seconds.
Muagututia was approached in an American creator of the American Samoa Bobsled Federation due to his previous experience as an Navy SEAL. His first encounter with Bobsleigh was in the driving school situated in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in November 1992. He qualified for 1994’s Winter Olympics, held in Lillehammer Norway, by scoring 38 points at two international events held in Calgary and achieving above the minimum requirement of 20 points. He also qualified by participating in five international events. His performances included a tenth place result in the Americas Cup Division race.
