Darrin Nelson is one of the most popular and richest American football running back who was born on January 2, 1959 in Sacramento, California, United States. Darrin Milo Nelson (born on January 2 1959) is an ex- American soccer running back who played in the National Football League for the Minnesota Vikings and San Diego Chargers. He played in the NCAA football tournament playing at Stanford University.

On the 17th of October 1989, following his refusal to make the trip to Dallas the team, he became the target of trade to San Diego Chargers in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick (#116-Reggie Thornton). He was the third running back, following Marion Butts and Tim Spencer. In September of 1990 He was released, and later signed a new contract. It was his fourth year as a running back that particular season.

In 1991, he was signed as a free agent by the Minnesota Vikings. He was a backup running back behind Herschel Walker and Terry Allen and was also the team’s kickoff returner for two seasons. On August 30, 1992, he was released and later re-signed. He announced his retirement on June 30, 1993.

Nelson spent 15 years in the administration at Stanford University. In 2011, Nelson became the Senior Associate Athletic Director for the University of California Irvine.

As a running back Nelson was a danger as an runner and a receiver from the backfield. He is perhaps most well-known for kicking the game-winning touchdown on the fourth down in the final moments during the 1987 NFC Championship Game. In 1988, Nelson was absent for three games because of an injury.
