He is currently a part of the Lacombe Generals of the Allan Cup Hockey West (ACHW) which is a semi-professional league located that is located in Alberta, Canada. Prior to that, he was in the Augsburger Panther of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Oberg played as a junior with the Camrose Kodiaks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) prior to spending an entire season at Minnesota State University in Duluth. In the NHL Entry Draft, Oberg was accepted to the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL) as free agents in the year 2009. He played two seasons for the Canucks American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate known as named the Manitoba Moose, appearing in four games for the Canucks. Oberg was transferred with the Florida Panthers in 2011, and played the rest of the season playing for their AHL affiliate known as called the Rochester Americans. Oberg was transferred towards his Panthers new affiliate called named the San Antonio Rampage, and was then transferred for the Tampa Bay Lightning, who assigned Oberg to their affiliate called known as the Norfolk Admirals.
After the expiration on his agreement to the Lightning, Oberg was released as a free agent . He signed an initial one-year AHL contract to Chicago Wolves. Chicago Wolves on August 19 2013.
Oberg signed his first professional contract abroad on July 3, 2015, agreeing to a one-year deal with German club, Augsburger Panther of the DEL.
In the years 2010-2011, Oberg was recalled to the Canucks on February 17 in 2011. On February 28, 2011, Oberg, along with the third round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, was transferred with the Florida Panthers, for left winger Chris Higgins.

After two seasons at Minnesota-Duluth Oberg quit the college when he signed a no-cost deal to the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL) on April 10 in 2009. Oberg began his career with his Canucks’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate known as named the Manitoba Moose. After playing in 33 games for the Moose and at the time Oberg was the top scorer among all Moose defencemen in scoring Oberg was picked up to his fellow Canucks on January 8th in 2010. Oberg was able to make the NHL as well as Canucks debut on the 9th of January in 2010, when he played with the Calgary Flames, and was removed from the Moose the following day. He was called up for the second time during this season in April, during the Canucks final game of the season against Calgary. A few days later, the Moose sent him back to the Moose to join them in their playoff game in the series against Hamilton Bulldogs. He played in all seventy games with the Moose during their 2009-2010 AHL season. He also led all defencemen on the team in scoring 26 points.
On the 2nd day of December in the 2nd of December, Oberg was dealt by the Panthers along alongside Mike Kostka, to the Tampa Bay Lightning for James Wright and Mike Vernace. Oberg was called up by the Lightning numerous times during the season, only to be removed to the AHL without ever playing. Oberg finally played his first game for the Lightning on the 24th of January 2012, when they played The Columbus Blue Jackets.
On July 31, 2014, Oberg signed as a free agent with his seventh AHL club, agreeing to a one-year contract with the Portland Pirates.
