An offensively skilled player in the Ontario Hockey League’s Kitchener Rangers, McGrath was selected with the Detroit Red Wings in the 4th round (128th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. The Wings are a group that sees McGrath as a possible power forward, even though McGrath has had difficulties adjusting to playing professionally.
