Erland Johnsen is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on April 5, 1967 in Fredrikstad, Østfold, Norway. Erland Johnsen (born 5 April 1967 in Fredrikstad) is a Norwegian former professional footballer , and manager.
He was in the December, 1989 when he was transferred to English club Chelsea in England. He played for eight seasons . He was named best player by Chelsea in 1995. He scored the only goal for Chelsea in the match against Southampton in April 1994. While at Chelsea He was a player during the 1994 FA Cup Final. Chelsea took home their 1996/97 FA Cup; in the fifth round, against Leicester City FC at Stamford Bridge, Johnsen went down in the penalty box in the final minute of extra time. Referee Mike Reed awarded a penalty to Chelsea. This penalty was then taken to the goal by Frank Leboeuf and secured a victory of 1-0 for Chelsea. It was described by The Guardian’s Scott Murray as one of the six decisions by a referee that were the worst ever. Johnsen was dropped from the team for the final , but he played in the semi-finals against Wimbledon. After that, he went back to his home country of Norway where He played for Rosenborg and later Stromsgodset before taking a break in June 1999.
Johnsen remained with Strømsgodset as an assistant coach for the next three years after he retired as a footballer. Later he had spells with Moss (2002–2003) and Follo (2003–2006). He also worked for Lillestrøm as a player developer.
After Tom Nordlie resigned on 29 May 2008, Johnsen stepped in as caretaker, together with former Chelsea teammate Frode Grodås.
Johnsen played as a central defensive player who awarded 19 times by Norway. He was a central defender who played 19 times for Norwegian national team. He was also a part of the team at the 1994 World Cup. He also earned five caps in Norway’s failed qualifying campaign for the 1988 Olympics However, they aren’t considered fully international football by FIFA. He also played in 16 under-21 matches for Norway. The most well-known moment in Johnsen’s life occurred on November 15, 1989, in a match of Norway and Scotland in Hampden Park, where he scored an goal from in the middle of the pitch. The goal was broadcast around the globe, and even made news channels “Play of the Day”. It also sparked the interest of Chelsea who bought Johnsen later in the year. The legendary Scottish goalkeeper Jim Leighton said about the shot 20 years after the fact: “I’m never allowed to forget about it in Scotland, it is the furthest I’ve ever lost a goal from.” Johnsen recreated the goal along with Leighton in 2009 for the Norwegian sport television show Golden Goal.
