Erica Wiebe is one of the most popular and richest Freestyle Wrestling who was born on June 13, 1989 in Stittsville, Canada. Erica Elizabeth Wiebe (born June 13th 1989) is a wrestler who competes for Canada. Wiebe is currently the current Olympic champion in the women’s 75 kg freestyle. She won medals at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is the third Canadian winner in the history of wrestling at the Olympics and was the only the second Canadian woman to take home gold following Carol Huynh. Wiebe has also been named the present Commonwealth Games champion in the same weight class. She won gold in both the 2018 and 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Gold Coast, respectively.

In the summer of 2016, Wiebe participate as part of Canada’s Olympic team. In the competition at the Olympics she took home the gold medal, beating Guzel Manyurova, who was the winner of the last race. In the aftermath of taking home the Olympic title, she stated “I love this sport and I never thought I’d be an Olympic champion, but today I had my best day. It’s amazing.” It was only the third medal of gold Canada have ever got at an Olympics and the second time ever women’s gold. She is following on the heels of Daniel Igali who won gold at the 2000 Summer Olympics and Carol Huynh who won the first gold medal for Canadian women in this year’s Summer Olympics.

She had a phenomenally successful 2014 season in which she won every single tournament she participated in and won a total of 36 matches. She took home gold in the freestyle 75 kg event during the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In celebration of her win following the event, she stated “When I won it was emotional. This is what I have been thinking about and dreaming about. It was awesome to have that moment for myself, the first time that I did this at a big event. I have never had my anthem played so I was thinking about that before I went out there and that is what I was wrestling for today.” Wiebe was also able to win silver in her participation in the 2015 World University Games. In the prestigious 15th Golden Grand Prix Ivan Yarygin she took home Gold in her weight class. Despite her numerous successes, Wiebe did not compete for Canada in her home country during the 2015 Pan American Games.
