His time at the university in Rome culminated with a master’s degree Natural Science at the university of Rome “La Sapienza” in February 2004 (magna cum laude). The thesis he wrote for his master’s degree was the study of vertebral ageing in Etmopterus spinax which is a common bottom-dwelling shark in the Mediterranean sea. The research resulted in the first method that allows him to “read” for the first time ever a very difficult vertebra.
