Adu started his football career playing for the team of colts located in Kumasi Ghana and was scouted by Right to Dream Academy in the Milo tournament in 2009 (A soccer tournament held in Ghana with only elementary schoolchildren). Adu was awarded an award for the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana to study as well as play football. The academy graduated the Academy in the year 2015 and was regarded and was deemed to be one of the top players of his generation. While at the Academy He also participated in tests for English Premier League team Manchester City FC. Adu also travelled to Denish club FC Nordsjaelland for trails with his teammate Abdul Mumin, Vejle football club in Denmark and SC Braga also in Portugal.
Adu was a part of the Ghana U-17 team that took home the tournament of four nations held in Namibia in April of 2014. Adu was also a participant in the Ghana U-17 team which was disqualified for having qualified to participate in the 2015. AYC at Niger.
Adu joined Swedish Superettan team Östers IF on a two-year deal as midfielder after a successful trail in April 2017. On Monday 17 April 2017, Adu marks his debut game for Östers IF as they won 1-0 against Frej, he played for 58 minutes. Adu has featured in 8 Superettan games for Östers. On 30 May, Adu scored his first hat trick in a professional career for Östers IF as they beat Bors SK 12-0 in the Swedish Hyundai Cup.
