She was the wife of telephone lineman Vietnam veteran Michael Francis Boldman and telephone company operator Peggy Lynn Young Boldman. Both were employed by The Mountain Bell Telephone Company. The younger brother of her, Christopher Michael Boldman, was born 13 months after her and was often known as the “Irish twin”. Both were Roman Catholic.

Ellie has been elected an Montana representative to Montana’s Democratic National Convention for both of the President Obama noms for 2008 Denver, Colorado and 2012 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 2011, Ellie was elected to the Montana House of Representatives, after winning a hotly contested primary against former Missoula City Councilwoman, Lou Ann Crowley.

Ellie Boldman Hill (Ellie Hill Smith) (born June 30 1975) is an American lawyer as well as a social justice activist and politician from Montana, the U.S. the state of Montana. Ellie was selected in Time Magazine as one of the “40 Under 40 Political Rising Stars in the Nation.” Ellie is a member of the Democratic Party of Montana, creator of the New Leaders Council, Montana Chapter and served in the Montana House of Representatives, which represented District 90 in central Missoula between 2011 and 2019. She was not able to run again due to the limitations on her term and has applied to run in Senate Seat 45 in 2020.

Ellie was a student at her time at the College of Idaho on a soccer scholarship. She then suffered an injury to her knee, she was transferred onto Boise State University, where she earned an undergraduate degree of Psychology and a minor in English in 1997. After graduation, Ellie worked for a year at REI and Bogus Basin Ski Resort, and then spent a number of months travelling across Europe and then was enrolled at the University of Idaho, College of Law and received an honorary Juris Doctor during 2001. While in Law school, she served as the president of the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association, Student Chapter. She also interned with an organization called the Nez Perce tribal Counts at Lapwai, Idaho.

In November 2010, Ellie won a hotly contested election and was elected to the Montana House of Representatives, where she has been re-elected for four terms. Since roaming the halls of the Montana Capitol, Ellie has traveled to Jordan with the American Council of Young Political Leaders, visited President Barack Obama in the White House with the Young Elected Officials Network, elected national Vice President for the Young Democrats of America, and spoken for thousands as a keynote or panelist for the Aspen Institute, Conference on World Affairs, Netroots Nation, Center for American Women in Politics, amongst many others.
