Ellie Greenwood is one of the most popular and richest Long-Distance Runner who was born on March 14, 1979 in Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom. Greenwood was born in Dundee, Scotland, on 14 March 1979. When she was eight years older, she and her parents relocated into Norfolk, England. After graduating from the university at the age of 2001, she emigrated into Canada where she worked for an UK Ski tour company, and was there for the rest of her life.

Greenwood has been a participant 3 times at South Africa’s 90-kilometer Comrades Marathon. The race is held on an undulating road in KwaZulu Natal, it is believed to be the longest-running as well as the most fiercely competitive race in world. Greenwood was fourth in the 2011 race and was second in 2012, only 72 seconds ahead of the winner. In the year of 2013, Greenwood had a lot of injuries. Greenwood returned to running at a slower pace and focused at her 2013 Comrades Marathon to keep her in good spirits. When she ran the 2014 Comrades Marathon, having only 18 kilometers remaining she was just 8 minutes behind the leader, but she managed to overcome the deficit and take the victory in an impressive time of 618 minutes. She was one of the very first British female to take home the title that was dominated by the previous 11 years by Russian twins Elena and Olesya Nurgalieva. Elena Nurgalieva still holds the record for the race, which she set in the year 2006.

In November 2014, Greenwood lined up for the third time at the start of the IAU 100 km World Championships. Having won it in 2010, she led the British team in 2011 but pulled out at the 90 km mark, after suffering from vomiting for 40 km. In the 2014 race, Greenwood took the lead at the 55 km mark and held on to it to win gold in 7:30:48, eight minutes ahead of second placed Chiyuki Mochizuki of Japan and the third best time in the all-time list of British performances. Joanna Zakrzewski of the UK came third in 7:42:02. With Jo Meek coming fourth, Britain also won gold in the team event.

In her first run in this long distance Greenwood was the winner of the Elk- Beaver 100k race on Vancouver Island in May 2010 and set a new course record of 7 minutes and 36 seconds and was selected to compete for Great Britain at the 2010 IAU 100 km World Championships. After a spirited battle with the race’s leader and Lizzy Hawker, the 2006 World Champion and compatriot Lizzy Hawker, Greenwood won gold with 7:29.05 in the race, making it possible for Great Britain to first place in the team race and at the jointly held IAU 100km European Championships. The year 2010 saw her set new course records in the 125-kilometer Canadian Death Race, coming second overall, surpassing previously set records by over an hour. The same was true in running the Knee Knackering North Shore Trail Run.
