Griswold is an active writer for The New Yorker and a Distinguished Writer in Residence at New York University. The author is “Amity and Prosperity: One Family and the Fracturing of America,” which was a book that was a Times Notable Book and a Times Critics’ Choice, for which she received the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction as well as the Ridenhour Book Prize, in the year 2019. It was her fellow of the New America Foundation from 2008 until 2010 and was awarded a prize in 2010. Rome Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She was an ex- Nieman Fellow, and is currently a Berggruen fellow at Harvard Divinity School, and was published on The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine and The New York Times Magazine.

Eliza Griswold is the daughter of Phoebe and Frank Griswold, the 25th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church. They are married academic and journalist Steve Coll. Steve Coll is the dean of the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University, which hosts the awards, and is an active Pulitzer board member since 2012. The couple was married before to Christopher Allen.

In 2015, Griswold’s translation from the Pashto of I Am the Beggar of the World: Landays from Contemporary Afghanistan won the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation.

Griswold won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for her book Amity and Prosperity: One Family and the Fracturing of America.

In 2011 in the New York Times Magazine, she published an investigative report, The Fracturing of Pennsylvania, which investigated the environmentally- questionable practices of fracking companies such as Range Resources. In 2015, in the NYTimes Magazine she wrote about the decline of Christianity in the Mideast.
