Elise Primavera (Born 19 May 1955) is an American writer as well as illustrator for children’s fiction. She came onto the scene of literature in 1981 to work as an artist for Atheneum, Putnam, and other publishing houses. In the last three decades she has become an avid illustrator, and has created and illustrated several highly-acclaimed publications by herself.

Primavera has claimed that she has her most creative ideas when she takes showers. She wrote the novel Auntie Claus in 1999, following a “shower session.” As per The New York Times, the illustrations in this publication “brim with fantastic energy” and were so good that dioramas inspired by the illustrations were displayed in the windows of the most famous Saks Fifth Avenue stores in Manhattan. The year 2005 was the first time Primavera selected to design the artwork to be used in the White House’s Christmas Program. Her first novel, The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls, was published in 2006 and over the past few years, she’s been prolific, releasing two novels in the Fred and Anthony series in 2007, and two more scheduled to release in 2008. She is currently developing a new book about Gumm Street Girls.
