Stefanie DeLeo (born April 22 1982) is an American playwright and author who is most well-known for her published play about autism, Worth a Thousand Words published in 2010 by JAC NEED Publishers. In September of 2017 she was included in the latest edition of Chicken Soup for the Soul Dreams and the unexplainable edition. The author is the creator of Cry My Safari and the comic performance Answer to the Question, Iris and a contributor for the SAT Prep book. In addition, she is an invited writer for Melibee Global, reflecting on her travels living abroad. Stefanie has also been a returning Peace Corps Volunteer having lived and worked in the South African town of Kuruman for two and a half decades, where she is recognized as a prominent resident.

In 2007 DeLeo was accepted into in 2007 the Peace Corps and relocated to South Africa. She was assigned to the tiny, isolated city in Kuruman within Northern Cape. Stefanie went to undergrad in Eastern Nazarene College in Boston and graduated with the Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater and minoring in History. She performed in a variety of productions, including Lisa’s Bocon as well as Thornton Wilder’s The Skin of Our Teeth. Furthermore, DeLeo studied playwriting and acting, and in 2004, she directed the principal production on stage of The Diary of Anne Frank that won the Moss Hart Award in 2004 for the best production during the 2003-2004 season of theatre. In 2005, DeLeo’s debut production Worth a Thousand Words was staged by Theatre Three in Port Jefferson, New York at Theatre Three. The play was later released. In 2005, she relocated into New York City to pursue an advanced diploma with a focus on Educational Theatre in New York University. DeLeo completed her master’s degree in the year 2006. Her next play, Jezebel’s Apple was performed in The Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan.

Stefanie was born in Portsmouth, Virginia at the Naval Medical Center. Since her father was serving in the Navy and her mother was in the Navy, she moved around frequently, and lived in four states at the age of three. Both of her parents were brought up in New York City, which is where she lived most of her time. As a young woman, Stefanie found inspiration from George Orwell, Anne Frank, Bette Midler and in 1993, following her experience with her favorite Nickelodeon sketch comedy series, Roundhouse, she became hooked on the stage. DeLeo was a member of the nearby church located that was located in Central Islip, which gave her numerous performance opportunities.
