Sanborn (born on the 19th of February, 1950) is an American independent bishop, well-known for his stance on sedevacantism as well as sedeprivationism. He is currently the Rector of the non-sectarian Most Holy Trinity Seminary in Brooksville, Florida. He was ordained priest in June of

1975. He was an associate of the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX). The Canonical Recognition of the SSPX was controversially removed in the hands of the city’s Roman Catholic bishop in May 1975, just one month before Sanborn’s ordination. This move was later confirmed through the Vatican. In 1983, he severed his ties to the SSPX and founded the autonomous Blessed Sacrament Chapel in Martinez, California in 1984. He was ordained as a bishop by Traditionalist Bishop Robert McKenna in 2002.

Sanborn established the traditionalist independent Most Holy Trinity Seminary in Spring Lake, Florida in 1995. In 2005, the seminary was moved in 2005 to Brooksville, Florida, and continues to be the Seminary’s Rector as of January 1, 2019. Most Holy Trinity Seminary is one of the few functioning sedevacantist schools in the world. Sanborn often travels to Europe and throughout in the United States holding conferences promoting sedevacantism.

The year 1983 was the time he became among from nine American clergy who would break off their ties to archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, accusing him of being too traditionalist. The other priests in the nine-member group included Anthony Cekada and Daniel Dolan.

The Roman Catholic priest and independent traditionalist bishop Robert McKenna OP consecrated Sanborn as a bishop in 2002. On February 22, 2018, on the Feast of the See of St. Peter at Antioch, Sanborn consecrated Joseph Selway as a bishop, with Geert Stuyver from the Mater Boni Consilii Institute and Daniel Dolan assisting as co-consecrators.
