Seth McKeel (born June 5 1975) was a Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 until 2014, representing the 63rd District from the year 2006 until 2012, and then the 40th district that included the majority the metropolitan Lakeland located in Polk County, from 2012 until 2014.

When the Chief the Financial Director of Florida Jeff Atwater was under consideration for the position of president of the Florida Atlantic University during 2014 as the time came to run to re-elect himself, McKeel was thought to be a potential candidate to succeed Atwater in the race as the Republican candidate. However, Atwater was not selected and instead ran successfully for an election for re-election.

After the reconfiguration of congressional districts that took place in McKeel was assigned to the 40th District. It was located exclusively on Polk County and included most of metropolitan Lakeland. He was elected the nominee of his party in uncontested fashion and went on to the general elections, in which he was challenged by an independent contestant Lillian Lima. The candidate he was fighting primarily focused to replace politicians with younger ones however McKeel stood up for his performance, saying, “I ran my first campaign on my vision for my hometown and a deeply rooted belief in limited government and fiscal conservatism. That record is very public, and I am proud of it.” In the end, McKeel turned away Lima’s contest, and won election to the final term of the legislature by a majority of 60% of votes.

McKeel was a student at McKeel attended the University of Florida, where his graduation was in 1997. Ross opted to run for reelection for the District 64, rather than the 63rd District, which is where he had been previously elected, resulting in an opening for a seat. McKeel decided to run for the 63rd District which encompassed a large portion in western Polk County and southeastern Hillsborough County and was elected in the Republican primary without opposition. The general election was where he ran for the cause of “small business regulation and education” and was up against the massage therapy therapist James Davis, the Democratic candidate who shared the same name as the failed Democratic candidate for Governor, Jim Davis; McKeel took the name association with a seriousness and said that the candidate felt “nervous about what his opponent’s name might mean on a night when Democrats were doing well across the country.” However, he ultimately successful in defeating Davis by winning more than 60 per cent of votes. In both 2008 and 2010, McKeel was elected unopposed.
