Nachbaur played in 469 games of the American Hockey League (AHL) in which he scored 174 goalsand adding 187 assists to 361 points. He had 1,452 penalty minute. He was awarded the Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears in 1987-88.

Nachbaur began his coaching career in the 1994–95 season, when he was named head coach of the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He won WHL coach of the year award that season when he led the, to a 42–28–2 record and remained with the Thunderbirds as their head coach until 2000.

Nachbaur then served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League (AHL) from 2000 to 2002.

Nachbaur was a player with his time in the NHL as a player with The Hartford Whalers, Edmonton Oilers and the Philadelphia Flyers, and played professionally for 14 years. This included some of the eight seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). Through 223 NHL games the player recorded 23 goals and had 46 assists and accumulated four65 penalty minute. The Whalers third-round pick (60th in the overall rankings) at the time of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft.

Donald Kenneth Nachbaur (born January 30 1959) is a Canadian professional coach in ice hockey as well as a former player. He was previously the assistant coach of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Nachbaur was previously director of hockey for Spokane Chiefs of the National Hockey League (NHL). Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Nachbaur had a brief stint as a junior as a player for his team, the Billings Bighorns of the WHL. Over two years, in which the team played 162 matches (Regular season and playoffs) in which he scored 87 goals and added an additional 89 assists, earning an average of 176 points. He also played 350 minutes of penalties. Nachbaur remains his WHL record for the most goals in a playoff match when he scored 5 goals on April 20th 1978, in Vancouver with New Westminster Bruins. Bighorns were victorious 7-4.

Nachbaur played for ATSE Graz and EC Graz in Austria from 1990 to 1994 where in 182 games he scored 106 goals and added 103 assists for 209 points.
