Nathalie Lambert (OC) was born December 1, 1963 in Montreal. She is a Canadian Olympic gold medalist in short track speed skating. At the Winter Olympics she won one Gold and two Silver medals. She was also Canada’s flag bearer during the closing ceremony of the 1992 Albertville Olympics. She is also a three time Overall World Champion for 1991-93 and 1994.
Governor General David Johnston made Lambert an Officer of Canada on June 30, 2016. Her citation stated that she was being cited for “her achievements in Olympic Sport as well as her outstanding contributions to Canadian athletics as a mentor and spokesperson.”
She retired in 1997 and made a successful comeback to short track. Although she seemed on track to make the 1998 Canadian Olympic team, an injury forced her to withdraw.

Although it was not her most favorite event, she was one the gold medal favorites in the 500m gold at the 1992 Olympics. She then became the favorite after her fellow leading contenders Sylvie Daigle of China and Zhang Yanmei from China were both eliminated in heats. She fell in the semis after she was caught up by Yan Li from China and did not make it to the final. After the disappointment, she bounced back to lead the Canadian relay team to gold. She was the favourite in the 500m and the 1000m, but she fell again in the semifinals of 500m, and was just nipped by Chun Lee Kyung from Korea for the 1000m gold. This Korean athlete won the next 3 overall world titles and is a four-time Olympic Gold medalist. In 1994, she settled for silver. After the Chinese team finished 2nd, she added another silver to the relay.
