Aldophus “Doc” Lawson (born on the 11th of February, 1958, in Liberia) is an ex- American soccer defender, best known for his lengthy indoor career. Lawson played in the third highest number of games played in the history of the first MISL. He also played for four seasons playing in the North American Soccer League. He is known for his aggressive defending, Doc earned the nickname”The Indoor Warrior. Lawson had three caps with his U.S. National team during 1979. He was part in the 1988 U.S. Olympic soccer squad, and also played for his U.S. Futsal side as it secured third place at the 1988 FIFA Futsal World Championship.
In addition to his lengthy indoor soccer career, Lawson also spent several seasons playing in the North American Soccer League. After his initial MISL year, Lawson moved west to join the San Jose Earthquakes for the 1979 NASL season. Lawson was later transferred with the San Diego Sockers and played the entire 1980 NASL outdoors season for the Sockers. He didn’t play outside in the same way until 1984 when he joined the New York Cosmos for the final season in the NASL.
In 1989, Lawson played eight games, scoring one goal, with the United States national futsal team which competed in the first FIFA Futsal World Championship. The U.S. took third place.
He retired after the 1990-91 season and went into private business in Dallas. In 1992, he briefly played for the Dallas Rockets in the USISL.
Lawson was a three-time member of his U.S. national team in October 1979. The first of these was an 1-0 win against Bermuda on the 7th of October. His next game was a 3-0 defeat to France just three days later. the final game of his career was a 2-0 defeat to Hungary on the 26th of October.

When he was born in Liberia, Lawson moved with his family to the United States as a child. The family moved to Queens, New York where Lawson started playing soccer at fourteen. He was a student at Jamaica High School, earning the PSAL Iron Horse/Pegasus award in soccer in the 1975-76 season. After graduating from highschool in the year 1976 Lawson went to Southern Connecticut State University where he played for the men’s soccer team from 1976 until 1978. Lawson was the initial Fighting Owl to receive All American recognition when Lawson was named a third squad All American in both 1977 and 1978. The year 1978 was the time he resigned from the college to become a professional.
Lawson was signed by Lawson joined the Cincinnati Kids of Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) in 1978, as the league and team were preparing for their debut season. On the 22nd of December in 1978 Lawson took part in his first match of MISL history when the Kids were defeated by the New York Arrows at Nassau Coliseum. The Kids folded at the conclusion of the season and Lawson made the move into Philadelphia Fever. Philadelphia Fever. The year 1982 saw Lawson joined his own team, the New York Arrows. The Arrows were the top team in the league from its beginning but they were now in a downward spiral. Lawson played for two seasons with the club before they folded in 1984. Then he joined the New York Cosmos where he was a part of the last NASL season. After the NASL was shut down in 1984, the Cosmos switched into the MISL for the 1984-85 season. But, they folded in the season. Lawson became an independent player as a player for the Dallas Sidekicks on October 1 in 1985. Lawson became one of five players to see his jersey number taken away by Dallas who he had played with the Sidekicks for six seasons. Lawson was a crucial part in the 1986-87 MISL champions team. Lawson was selected for the U.S. Olympic team as it began qualification for the 1980 Summer Olympics to be held in Moscow. Qualifications continued into 1980 and the U.S. ultimately qualified for the games, its first since the 1972 Summer Olympics. However, President Jimmy Carter declared that the United States would boycott the games after the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan.
