Dmitry Shakulin is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Coach who was born on May 11, 1968 in Kirov, Kirov Oblast, Russia. Dmitry Shakulin (born May 11 the 11th of May, 1967) was a Russian Basketball coach as well as a former athlete. He was most recently an assistant coach with his team CSKA Moscow of the VTB United League.
After retiring from professional basketball scene, in 2003 Schakulin was a part of the Dynamo Moscow coaching staff, team where he spent the bulk of his professional career. After the departure of coach Valdemaras Chomicius in the month of November 2003 Schakulin worked as the interim head coach before his successor coach Zvi Sherf was appointed as his successor. The following season, under Dynamo new coach Valeri Tikhonenko He was the primary coach for youth development. He was also assisting Yevgeny Paschutin as a member of the Russia Under-20 team , when they were victorious at the U20 European Championship in 2005 and the first time for Russia since the dissolution that year of Soviet Union.

- Later in the season Dynamo lost in the quarterfinals of the 2006–07 FIBA EuroCup to the Spanish team CB Estudiantes. For the following season the suburb of Moscow Dynamo changed its name to Triumph Lyubertsy, but Schakulin moved to Khimki after team added Kestutis Kemzūra. After Yevgeny Paschutin in 2008 gave up his longtime assistant job in the Russian team CSKA Moscow, Schakulin followed him and became an assistant coach to Ettore Messina. Since 2009, he has been also serving as an assistant coach of the Russian national basketball team. In November 2010, he stepped in as interim head coach until the end of season, after club parted ways with Duško Vujošević due to poor results. Later he signed new two-year contract with an option for third yeat with CSKA, this time as an assistant coach. In July 2014, he parted ways with the team. Over his six-years period in the club, he won 6 Russian Leagues titles, 4 VTB United League titles and also collected 5 Euroleague Final Four participation. During that time, he’s been working as an assistant coach with several head coaches including: Ettore Messina, Evgeny Pashutin, Duško Vujošević and Jonas Kazlauskas. In addition, since he was appointed as Russian team assistant coach, Russia took the bronze medal at the FIBA EuroBasket 2011 and at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
In the 1995-96 season at Dynamo Moscow, Schakulin was the second-best player behind the champion of the series CSKA Moscow. In February 1997, he finally made the move into CSKA in the wake of Dynamo Moscow its professional play operation was cut off because of financial issues, and there he was able to win the championship twice in 1998 and 1997. In addition the team was able to leap into the final round of the national team to participate in the European Championship finals. At EuroBasket 1997 event, Russia beat hosts Spain in the quarterfinals. However, Italy beat Italy in the semi-final. In the following round, Russia took the bronze medal in the “small final” against Greece. In this season’s Basketball Bundesliga 1998-99 season, Schakulin returned to Oberelchingen and managed to make it into the play-offs for the second time. After a unexpected series win during the qualification round, which was won by the newly formed DJK Wurzburg, they lost in the quarter-finals series to their rivals at Rhondorfer TV. Schakulin later joined Israeli Maccabi Rishon LeZion and then he was able to finish his career with Russian club Spartak St. Petersburg in the 2000-01 season.

Shakulin began his professional journey at Dynamo Moscow, after moving to Moscow from the city of his birth Kirov at the age of 14. He remained there until the close in the Soviet Union and then he relocated abroad to the United States for the very first time during the 1992-93 season with his Israeli team Beitar Tel Aviv. He was a part of the Russian national team team during the EuroBasket 1993 tournament, where he took home the silver medal but lost in the final game by only one point difference to the host nation Germany. After a second year with Dynamo in 1993-94, Schakulin was back in Germany and was a part of the 1994-95 season with the newcomer to the Bundesliga SV Tally Oberelchingen. They managed to get into the play-offs for the championship, which Bayer Giants Leverkusen defeated in the first round.
As part of Russia’s national team Russian national team, he participated during the EuroBasket 1993 where he was awarded the silver medal, and the EuroBasket 1997 where he was awarded his bronze trophy. In the club competitions He won the Russian League title two times with CSKA Moscow, in 1997 and 1998. Also, he was a player in Israel with Maccabi Rishon LeZion and for German first division team SV Oberelchingen.
After completing his playing career Schakulin worked as a trainer, primarily as an assistant coach to many teams. Among his greatest successes as assistant coach so far includes the U20 European Championship in 2005 as well as numerous Russian League titles with CSKA Moscow.
