Didier Tholot (born 2 April 1964) is a French former professional footballer, who switched to management in 2002 and is the manager at present for Pau FC. While at Bordeaux he was part of his first UEFA Cup Final.

Tholot completed his playing career in Switzerland starting at FC Sion in 1997, later playing for FC Basel, BSC Young Boys and then FC Vevey-Sports 05 where he completed his final season by playing the role of coach and player.

In June 2010, Tholot took on the managerial duties of LB Châteauroux where, in spite of severe financial restrictions, he managed to keep the club in Ligue 2 for three seasons. He left the club in October 2012.

In May 2014 he became Assistant Manager to Claude Makelele at first division SC Bastia. When Makelele was sacked in November 2008, Tholot declined the top job out of “loyalty”.

The career of Bordeaux Tholot reached its peak. Tholot scored the opening goal in a famous second-leg comeback win at home against the legendary A.C. Milan of 1996 (3-0). The team went on make it to Finale of the 1996 UEFA Cup Final and to play in the finale game of the Coupe de la Ligue the next season, with Tholot being paired with Jean-Pierre Papin in the front.

Tholot was born in Feurs, Loire, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes. After completing his education with INF Vichy in 1984, Tholot signed his first professional contract with Sporting Club Toulon in the first division, where he began his training over the course of three years. Then he was assigned onto Chamois Niortais F.C. where he played for two years.

In 1990, he was signed in 1990 by Stade de Reims. Despite the club’s financial problems, eventually leading to their relegation at final stages of the season Tholot had 14 goals scored in his 34 matches. In the following season, he was signed to AS Saint-Etienne on a 2-year contract but, after receiving lesser playing time during the second season, he was moved onto FC Martigues who were freshly promoted from Division 2. With 27 goals in his two years, he got noticed at the time by FC Girondins de Bordeaux to play forward alongside Zinedine Zidane, Christophe Dugarry and Bixente Lizarazu.

Tholot’s next move to Reims was short-lived as he was replaced by Luis Fernández in December 2008. In April 2009 Tholot embarked on his second stint with Sion in order to save the club from the drop. Not only did the team avoid relegation that year but it also won the Swiss Cup. Tholot left the club at the end of the following season.
