She was made as a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery in 2006, “for mentoring activities and contributions to numerical algorithms” She was also named one of the first Fellows from the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) in 2009. In 2008, she was one of the Sonia Kovalevsky Lecturer of SIAM as well as the Association for Women in Mathematics.

Dianne Prost O’Leary (born 1951) is an American mathematician and computer scientist whose work involves computational computing for scientific purposes, linear algebra, as well as the science of computing. The professor has been named Distinguished University Professor Emerita in Computer Science in the University of Maryland, College Park and is the author of Scientific Computing with Case Studies (SIAM 2009).
After being appointed an assistant professor within mathematics and statistics at The University of Michigan, she relocated into Maryland in 1978, and was given a the joint appointment of computer science as well as the Institute for Physical Science and Technology. She also joined the applied mathematics department at Maryland in 1979 and joined Maryland’s Institute for Advanced Computer Studies in 1985. She was made a Distinguished University Professor in 2014 in the same year she was able to retire.
