Bell recorded her third album called Sagacious Grace, along with Houston Person and John Stowell however technical problems caused by the recording prevented the album from release. Bell quit the music business and went on to become a kindergarten music instructor located in Mill Valley. In 2011, audio engineers solved the issues by releasing Sagacious Grace, and Sagacious Grace was also released through Laser Records. It was ranked the number. 31, on the JazzWeek radio chart.

The song Let There Be Love was chosen as an Billboard magazine Recommended LP Jazz Selection for their February 26 issue in 1983. Bell got nominated by Down Beat in their Jazz Critics’ Polls of 1984 and 1985 as a talent that merits greater recognition. BAM magazine also nominated the album Let There Be Love as the Best Debut Album at the 1983 BAM Awards.

In the latter part of the 1970s Bell made the move in the late 1970s to California and worked in the restaurant in Sausalito. When she was performing “Happy Birthday” to a customer, she was noticed in the jazz group Eddie Duran, and he invited her to sing in his group. They made a demo cassette that became her debut album called”Let There Be Love (Concord Jazz) that was recorded with Duran along with Stan Getz. They also recorded another album for Concord Jazz, this time with Tom Harrell.

Bell was born into an musical family. She began playing the piano at her home. She was a clarinet player as a member of her school’s Plainfield High School band and was a part of an a cappella trio from the age of ten until her final year of high school. Then she graduated in 1972 from Indiana University at the end of December in 1972. She lived on in the middle of Hoosier National Forest in a two-room log cabin equipped with wood stove to heat the house as well as co-founder and chef-in-chief for The Earth Kitchen vegetarian restaurant in Bloomington, Indiana.
