In July 2001, he got signed by Scottish club Queen of the South where Queen of the South took home the Scottish League One Title in May 2002. His time at Queen of the South was again limited by injuries , and his playing time was reduced to 47 games in the league. Allan played the final year of his professional career with Dumbarton before taking his early retirement at just 30.
In the month of March, 1996, Jimmy Case took him on loan to Brighton & Hove Albion, before making the move permanent. Over the three seasons that he was at Brighton the club, he played 67 league appearancesand scored twice. Allan joined the non-league club Kingstonian and was named player of the season in the 1999-2000 season. Allan enjoyed a great time at Kingsmeadow. He was part of the in the 2000 FA Trophy squad beating Kettering Town by 3-2 in the dramatic 1999 Wembley Final, which turned into one of the final games played at the ‘OldWembley’. He played 68 times in two seasons.
