Denis Cyr Biography

Denis Cyr is one of the most popular and richest Ice Hockey Player who was born on February 4, 1961 in Verdun, Quebec, Canada. Cyr was the first player to make a splash in his professional hockey playing with Cyr’s team the Montreal Juniors of the QMJHL. He was immediately assigned to a line alongside his childhood friends Denis Savard and Denis Tremblay in a line called “Les Trois Denis”. The trio also had more in common than their first names as they were born on the 4th of February 1961, and were raised living in the Verdun area [11. Savard was the most famous of the trio and Hockey Hall of Fame member was the first to ask “What are the odds of that when you think about it. We played together as kids from age eight all the way through until I turned pro.” [2]. The line played two seasons in a row from 1977 until 1979. The line accumulated 299 points during its first seasonand then 366 points in the second season. Tremblay was removed after 24 games in 1979-80. However, Savard as well as Cyr both smashed their previous career-highs by recording 181 points as well as 146 respectively.

Cyr is currently residing living in Peoria, Illinois. Since 2008 Cyr founded his own company, the Cyr Financial Group in Peoria.

Although Tremblay was never chosen, Cyr and Savard were both drafted in the initial draft of 1980’s NHL Entry Draft. Savard was selected 3rd overall from the Chicago Black Hawks, and Cyr was picked 13th with the Calgary Flames. Cyr was to play one more season as a junior, however his season ended playing in ten games with the Flames. Cyr was unable to sustain his scoring prowess for the Flames and as a result , he was transferred with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1982 in exchange for Carey Wilson. The Hawks were looking for Cyr to get back into the chemistry along with Denis Savard, who had already established himself as a top NHLer in the early days of. But Cyr was unable to find an permanent NHL job and after a few seasons, he joined the St. Louis Blues, and then quit after three seasons with their team, the majority of which were spent playing with their affiliate of minor leagues that was that of the Peoria Rivermen from the International Hockey League, winning the Turner Cup in 1985. Cyr would later be their General Manager. Rivermen who would later be the winner of the Turner Cup again in 1991.
