Coates (born on January 13, 1973) is a American Christian minister who has been the senior pastor of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church, a megachurch within Clinton, Maryland, since 2004. Since 2004 the congregation has grown to nearly 10,000 members. In the past, Dr. Coates has initiated and rejuvenated ministry programs and expanded the church’s mission property and campus, and also incorporated the Mt. Ennon Development Corporation (MEDC). As of October 9, 2009 Outreach Magazine named Mt. Ennon to be one of its 100 fastest growing congregations across the U.S. Pastor Coates is the founder of the New Abolitionism Campaign, founder and president of the Black Church Center for Justice & Equality (BCC), He is a member of the board of both the Parents Television Council and the National Action Network. The pastor is also part of the Society of Biblical Literature, the Morehouse College Board of Preachers as well as the NAACP.
