Undrafted at five-foot-11″ (1.80 meters) guard at the University of Iowa, Oliver was a member of the Golden State Warriors from 2001-02 from 2002-03.
From 2007 until 2010 Oliver was a member of his Dutch team EiffelTowers that were winners of the Dutch Basketball League Cups in 2008 and 2009.
On 3 February 2003, Oliver signed to The Greenville Groove of the NBA Development League (D-League). The Groove was released from Oliver in February. Oliver joined Asheville Altitude D-League club Asheville Altitude two days later. Then, in October of 2003 Oliver joined the team that was expanding the USBL, Cedar Rapids River Raiders located in the state of Iowa The River Raiders would begin play in the spring of 2004. Then, he signed with The Dakota Wizards of the CBA in February 2004. The Wizards were the winners of their 2004 CBA title and Oliver was an alternate in the Wizards.

Born to parents in Quincy, Illinois, Oliver graduated from Mason City High School in Mason City, Iowa in 1997. He was a member in the National Honor Society with a 3.9 GPA. In the University of Iowa, Oliver played on the Hawkeyes basketball team for all four years before graduating at the end of 2001 having earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Finance. The final season of his career, Oliver averaged 14.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. Oliver was an All-Big Ten third-team conference selection (1999 through 2001) and was the league’s top player in the ratio of assists/turnovers in the final season of his career.
In the months of March 1996 and 1997, Oliver along with his teammates helped lead his team, known as called the Mason City Mohawks, to two wins at the state tournament. The of the team at that moment was Robert Horner, father of player and former Hawkeye, Jeff Horner. Oliver wasn’t selected at the time of 2001 NBA Draft but played two seasons with the Golden State Warriors, who dropped Oliver on the 5th of December 2002. While with the Warriors, Oliver played a predominantly backup role in 35 games. He averaged 1.8 per game. He also racked up 0.7 rebound, as well as 1.3 assists per game.
In 2011, he became the head of basketball operations at North Dakota. In 2014, he became an assistant basketball coach at Illinois State. On April 20, 2017, Oliver was named an assistant at Wisconsin under coach Greg Gard.
