Davide Ballardini (born 6 January 1964) is an Italian manager of football who previously had the responsibility of managing Genoa. He previously played professionally for Cesena as midfielder.
On the 4th of September, 2008 Palermo announced the dismissal of the head coach Stefano Colantuono the club appointing Ballardini as the new rosanero coach on a one-year contract. In his first game with Palermo, Ballardini led the Sicilians to a dazzling 3-1 victory at home against A.S. Roma, and the following day, he handed them the first loss of the season on Juventus with a 2-1 win in Turin it was the first occasion that Palermo beat Juventus at Juventus home stadium in 47 years. The ability of Ballardini to revive Palermo in the process of guiding their team to top positions in the league and was praised time by media. On October 7, just one day after Turin’s triumph of the rosanero on the pitch in Turin, Palermo announced to have signed a two-year contract prolongation with Ballardini.
Finally, after long rumours connecting Ballardini’s name as the next coach of Lazio following Delio Rossi’s departure, he was appointed as the new manager of the Roman club on 15 June 2009. He signed a two-year contract with an option for a third worth €750,000 per year.
On 8 November 2010 Ballardini returned into management, accepting an offer as head coach of Serie A club Genoa. He signed a two-year contract with the club, but club president Enrico Preziosi terminated the contract with him for no particular reason on 5 June 2011.
Ballardini began the 2006-07 campaign as the manager of Serie B team Pescara but he did not last until October after a disappointing start within the competition. He was announced as the new head coach of the bottom-placed Serie A team Cagliari on 27 December 2007 and succeeded Sonetti who, ironically, replaced him in his first season as the head of the Sardinian team. In his time as head coach Cagliari drastically improved their performances by securing 32 points over 21 weeks, thereby moving to the top of the table, and even managing to avoid relegation ahead of the deadline of. The problem was that Ballardini was unable to reach an understanding with Cagliari Chairman Massimo Cellino over an extension of his contract, and they decided to break up the from the club on the 28th of May.

Ballardini was born in Ravenna. There are three of his sons with him, with all being footballers. Ballardini began his coaching career as a the youth coach of Bologna as well as later Cesena along with A.C. Milan. Then he was the Parma under-19 youth coach from 2002 until 2004. He was later named by Sambenedettese as the new head coach for the 2004-05 season. The season that ended with a stunning fourth place and a subsequent participation in the promotion playoffs. However, he losing to Napoli at the semi-final stage. He was later selected by Massimo Cellino to be the new Cagliari manager for the 2005/06 Serie A campaign, being but fired just one week later, on November 11 to be succeeded with Nedo Sonetti.
On his first competitive match as Lazio boss, Ballardini led the club to triumph in the 2009 Supercoppa Italiana, as his side won 2–1 to outgoing Italian champions Inter in a single-legged game played at Beijing National Stadium, Beijing, China. However, Ballardini did not repeat this triumph in Serie A level, and also failed to qualify to the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League knockout round. Later in January and February a number of disappointing results left Lazio in 18th place, in danger of being relegated, leading club chairman Claudio Lotito to dismiss Ballardini and appoint Edy Reja as new head coach.
