From 2004 until the year 2006, Woodard conducted numerous trips in Nueva Germania, winning support from the then U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney. In 2011, Woodard gave Swiss author Christian Kracht permission to publish their extensive personal correspondence, mostly pertaining to Nueva Germania under the Leibniz’s University of Hannover label Wehrhahn Verlag. In the letters, FAZ says, “[The authors] obliterate the boundary between life and art.” Der Spiegel posits that Five Years is “the spiritual preparatory work” of Kracht’s novel Imperium.

In 2003, Woodard was elected as a councilman for Juniper Hills (Los Angeles County), California. In his role, he proposed the establishment of a sister city with Nueva Germania, Paraguay. To help advance his plans, Woodard traveled to the once-popular vegetarian utopia and spoke with the municipal leaders of Nueva Germania. After a first visit, he decided not to continue the relationship, but discovered within the community an area of research for future writings. The things that he is particularly interested in is the ideas of the proto-transhumanist the speculative designer Richard Wagner and Elisabeth Forster-Nietzsche together and her partner Bernhard Forster founded and lived in the colony from 1886 and 1889.
