David McGurk is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on September 30, 1982 in Middlesbrough, England, United Kingdom. David Michael McGurk (born 30 September 1982) is an English football manager, and a ex-professional player who was a centre back. He was a player within the Football League for Darlington and York City. He is director of Northern Premier League Premier Division club Hyde United.
McGurk signed an agreement for a one-year period with Darlington in May 2005 , but was quickly informed that he was permitted to quit the team following not being given first-team football for the 2005-06 season. McGurk was loaned to York again on August 2nd, 2005 for a period of six months, to ensure that his progress was tracked and he was able to play regularly first-team football. Darlington manager Hodgson stated that McGurk could have returned to the club after his stay at York was over after with 24 appearances, and scoring just one goal at York. McGurk made his debut Darlington appearance in the space of 10 months, replacing Shelton Martis in a 2-1 home win over Peterborough United on 14 January 2006. But, following one further appearance for Darlington the club, he returned to York as a temporary loan player until closing of the 2005-06 season on 24 January 2006, and concluded this loan playing 15 games as well as one strike. After the “hugely successful” loan spell it was his last game during the season for Darlington after he played in the 1-1 draw at home with Wrexham on May 6, 2006 in place of injured Matthew Clarke.
McGurk and Parslow were appointed as club captains for 2009–10, although Parslow would wear the armband throughout the season. He picked up a hamstring injury during a 2–1 away win over Gateshead on 25 August 2009. He captained York during their 2–0 home victory over Southern League Division One Midlands team Bedworth United in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round in October 2009, which was his 200th appearance for the club. He picked up a knee injury during a 2–1 away defeat to Forest Green Rovers on 6 March 2010, making his return as a 77th-minute substitute in a 1–0 away victory over Mansfield Town on 16 March after missing two matches. His first goal in over two years came with the equaliser at home to Altrincham on 5 April 2010, and York went on to win 2–1. He signed a new contract with the club in April 2010. McGurk played in both legs of York’s play-off semi-final victory over Luton Town, which finished 2–0 on aggregate. He started in the 2010 Conference Premier play-off Final at Wembley Stadium on 16 May 2010, which was lost 3–1 to Oxford. He finished the season with 46 appearances and one goal for York.
He started 2008–09 as an ever-present in the team before pulling a calf muscle during an FA Trophy second round match away to Oxford United on 13 January 2009, which ruled him out for three weeks. He was expected to make his return ahead of schedule away to Eastbourne Borough on 24 January 2009, but was not named in the team. His return came as a 90th-minute substitute in a 0–0 away draw with Ebbsfleet United on 8 March 2009. During the period of his injury, York signed defender Shaun Pejic, whose form alongside Daniel Parslow in central defence resulted in McGurk being unable to reaffirm his place in the team. He started in the 2009 FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium on 9 May 2009, which York lost 2–0 to Stevenage Borough. He finished the season with 45 appearances.
McGurk was signed by Conference National club York City on the 16th of September, 2004 on a one month loan in the wake of the deal having been delayed due to the club’s wage bill, which saw him play seven times during 2004-05. Despite York seeking to extend the loan and he was able to return to Darlington when it expired on the 19th of October, 2004 and took part in a match in the match against Swansea City in a 2-1 away defeat on the 17th of November, with Darlington manager David Hodgson saying he “did very well”. McGurk was injured of his knee cartilage which was treated in December 2004 and, after a good start to his recovery, he made his return to play against Notts County on 12 February 2005. He scored Darlington’s victory in their 2-1 defeat at home. He was selected to the League Two Team of the Week in March, 2005, but then later in the month suffered a cartilage injury. He was a part of one final game in 2004-05, and was his final appearance with 10 games and scored two goal for Darlington.

McGurk was a player in the Marton Boys from the age of nine, until he reached the age 15, at which point he was approached by Middlesbrough as well as Sunderland to take part in games for them. He was invited to return to Middlesbrough after a stint with them, but was given an agreement by Sunderland and continued to play for Sunderland for six months prior to being let go. He began the Youth Training Programme with Darlington at the end of July in 1999, and went through the club’s junior system. He made his debut in the first team on the 17th of November 2001 as a substitute in the 45th minute of an away victory of 1-0 against Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup first round. The 2001-02 season ended with 13 appearances, and signed an official agreement with Darlington on August 9th, 2002. He scored Darlington’s equaliser against Kidderminster on January 17th, 2004 and ended a streak of five 1-0 losses in six games for Darlington during 2003-04. This enabled them to avoid the relegation process to their Third Division. The season ended with 41 appearances and four goals.
McGurk began his career with the Darlington’s youth program and was a part of the first team in the season 2001/02. McGurk was later loaned by York City in the Conference National in 2004. He then had two loan times with York before being permanently enrolled in 2006after having made an impressive 62 appearances with Darlington. He was a part of Darlington in play-offs of the first season, and was awarded the club’s Clubman of Award in the second season. He took part in the 2009 FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium and then returned to the venue to play in the 2010 Conference Premier play-off Final.
York manager Billy McEwan hoped to re-sign him following the end of the season and McGurk declared he wanted to join the club permanently. After turning down a new contract at Darlington he signed for York permanently on 28 June 2006. He suffered from a throat infection in October 2006, which resulted in an operation, and returned to the team in November. He played in both legs of their play-off semi-final defeat to Morecambe 2–1 on aggregate and finished 2006–07 with 41 appearances. The club exercised their option to extend his contract for 2007–08 and was later persuaded by manager Colin Walker to sign an extended contract in January 2008. He captained the team during Manny Panther’s two-match omission from the squad during 2007–08, but Panther regained the captaincy after his return. He was voted by supporters as York’s Clubman of the Year for 2007–08, having made 56 appearances and scored one goal during the season, missing one match.
