He is currently driving the No. 37 LMP2 Oreca 07 for Jackie Chan DC Racing in the Asian Le Mans Series and FIA World Endurance Championship.
In 2017 Jackie Chan DC Racing allied with Jota Sport. In Le Mans, the team’s No. 38 LMP2 made use of the problems with in the LMP1 field to lead the overall laps, making it the first team of lower class to achieve this feat during Le Mans. The car would go on to be second overall and take home the LMP2 class. DC’s No. 37 car was driven by Cheng placed fourth overall. the Rebellion Racing No. 13 car was disqualified for failing a the post-race inspection. Cheng’s No. 37 was promoted to the podium. The No. 38’s performance was the first time that a Chinese team took home the top prize in their class in Le Mans.
In 2015-16, for the Asian Le Mans Series season, Cheng formed DC Racing which raced in a Ligier JS P3 with former OAK teammate Tung and Thomas Laurent. The team concluded its season winning Team Championship and a guaranteed entry into this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Cheng was born in Beijing, Cheng moved to the United States and was introduced to racing karts through a friend of his father. He was forced to participate in secret because his mother thought auto racing was too risky. In 2011, Cheng moved to sports cars and competed on the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) as well as the 24 Hours of Daytona. The race was contested by his team was with the GT class, however the car sustained major damage prior to the time Cheng was able to drive. The team was able overcome the damage and finish 21st. In Sepang Cheng was the winner of his first race, the Sepang 12 Hours and was named one of the top ten Young People by the ministry of foreign affairs of the Republic of China. Cheng also competed in at the ALMS’ 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans races, winning the first race and claiming the Drivers Champion for his co-driver in latter race by one point. Cheng and OAK finished the year with taking home the LMP2 Asian Le Mans Team and Driver Championships. Cheng did it again the following season.
In March of 2015, Cheng met actor and martial artist Jackie Chan, who discussed his appreciation for Steve McQueen’s film Le Mans as well as his passion for racing. After Cheng placed 9th on the podium in his LMP2 classification during Le Mans that year, Chan suggested the possibility of forming an unison team for 2016. To which Cheng was in agreement. Together, the two teams entered DC Racing into the FIA World Endurance Championship under the Baxi DC Racing Alpine banner as a partner in conjunction with Signatech Alpine and fielding Alpine A460s in the LMP2 class. In October the team was rebranded under the name of Jackie Chan DC Racing.
