David Barnes is one of the most popular and richest Boxer who was born on January 16, 1981 in Manchester, United Kingdom. David Barnes (born David Smith 16 January, 1981) is a British former professional boxer who fought from 2001 until 2015. He was the holder of the British world title of welterweight from 2003 until 2004 and the British super lightweight title from 2008.
Barnes has fought five times in the following two years against a variety of journeymen. In March 2008, he was given the chance to take on another championship–the British lighter welterweight variant. The fight in the George Carnall Centre in Davyhulme was the former European champion Ted Bami and Barnes ran out as a slick points winner becoming the first person to hold his British title at both welterweight and light lightweight welterweight. In July 2008, he defended his title in the very first defense in his fight against the champion of his time Barry Morrison from Scotland again taking the title on points that were over 12. Barnes had to forfeit his title when the fighter pulled out of an obligatory defense against the champion of his past, Colin Lynes. Barnes did not return to the ring until the 4th of December in 2009, when he took part in the lighter welterweight division in the Prizefighter series. He was scheduled to take on the man he was supposed to have taken on to defend the British champion title, Colin Lynes in the quarterfinals. The three-round fight was a split-decision victory for Lynes and also handed Barnes just his second loss.
In June of 2005 Barnes faced the Ghanaian Commonwealth champion Joshua Okine, where he was knocked down in the 5th round , and ended during the 12th. This was his first professional loss. When he decided the fight against Okine, Barnes had not had sufficient time for defending his British title, so he had to forfeit it.

Barnes was a professional for the first time in the month of July 2001, when in the Manchester Velodrome he stopped Trevor Smith in the second round of their 4 round match. After accumulating a ledger of 12-0, he was not long after, in July 2003, given the chance to defend his vacant British Welterweight title against the skilled Jimmy Vincent. Barnes won the title with a narrow victory of 115-114, as judged by John Keane in what was said by commentators to be “an excellent match from start to finish”. Barnes started his career in the early days but was hit by an unfortunate setback when the boxer was compelled to spend six weeks in an army detention center in Colchester. The promoters of his team were not aware and following seven consecutive wins through Sky the boxer was absent without permission in the military for a period of 18 months. This was until the check of his passport by Promoter Frank Warren revealed he had quit the army. When he was speaking to The Daily Telegraph in January 2003 Barnes stated that “I hated nearly every minute” after joining the army as an unhappy 15-year-old.
Now a full British champion but still inexperienced with a record that reads 13-0, Barnes determined to defend his title, and also trying to win the Lonsdale belt completely. He returned to the ring again at the end of December to defend his first fight against Scotsman Kevin McIntyre at the MEN Arena in Manchester winning the fight when it was ended after the eighth round. The victory was followed with more defenses in the Northern Irish’s Glenn McClarnon and England’s James Hare and was awarded the Lonsdale belt to keep.
