David John Christensen (born January 17th 1961) is a American soccer coach from college and a former athlete as well as an assistant coach of Arizona State. He was previously the offensive line coach and run game coach of the Texas A&M Aggies. He most recently was the offensive coordinator at The University of Utah. He was also director of football at the University of Wyoming from 2009 until 2013, during which time his record was 28 wins and 34 losses (.435). Prior to joining Wyoming, Christensen was the offensive coordinator at The University of Missouri and the University of Toledo.

Christensen’s name has been mentioned in connection with the head coaching role of several struggling programs including New Mexico, Washington, Washington State, and Wyoming,. He eventually accepted the position of head coach at Wyoming. Christensen helped lead the Cowboys to an impressive victory in the 2009 New Mexico Bowl win in 2009 over Fresno State.

On October 13, 2012; Christensen confronted Air Force coach Troy Calhoun after the Cowboys’ narrow 28-27 loss to the Falcons. Believing Calhoun had told Air Force quarterback Connor Dietz to fake an injury in order to buy more time before the game-winning touchdown, Christensen launched a profanity-laced tirade at Calhoun, calling him a “fly boy.” Christensen apologized the next night and was reprimanded by the Mountain West Conference for his actions. On October 22, Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman suspended Christensen for the Cowboys’ game against Boise State and fined him $50,000. Assistant head coach Pete Kaligis coached the team in that game.

In 2007 Christensen’s offense employed this strategy to great effect , scoring an all-time record-setting 558 total points. Also, Missouri ranked fifth in offensive yards total (490.29 per match) 8th on scoring defense (39.86 scores per game) with ninth place in yards passing (314.07 per contest). The same year also saw Chase Daniel to Heisman finalist status. Martin Rucker and Jeremy Maclin were named unanimous All-Americans this was the first time that two Tigers were recognized as All-Americans in the same year. Christensen himself was one of the finalist candidates to win the Broyles Award, and Rivals.com declared him The Offensive Co-Coordinator for the year.

A born and raised in Everett, Washington, Christensen was a student at in the University of Washington in Seattle and played under the head coach Don James on the Huskies football team from 1980 until 1982. He graduated with an B.A. degree in sociology at Western Washington University in 1985 as well as an M.S. level in sports sciences from Eastern Washington University in 1988.
