In December 2016, she was awarded the title ‘Women Of Peace’ by the Belgian Secretary of State for Equal Opportunities at the Belgian Senate, for her fight for women’s rights.
On March 21 2016, she received the Ebbenhouten Spoor award for exceptional merit as Flemish newcomer.
In 2014, she established the group “Let Iranian Women Participate in Their Sports to advocate for the rights to Iranian women to be able to participate in sporting matches at arenas.. She was born in Iran following the revolution of 1979.
She was a dental school student in the University of Tehran in 1999 during the student protest alongside the husband of her Saeed Bashirtash. The result was that she was arrested and ended into prison. After being granted bail after which she decided to leave along with her husband through Turkey and then Belgium. In absentia, she was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the court of revolution in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
