Darren Soto is one of the most popular and richest U.S. Representative who was born on February 25, 1978 in Ringwood, New Jersey, United States. Soto took his Democratic election to take over the seat of Rep. Alan Grayson, who had quit to compete in the primary race to run for U.S. Senate in Florida’s 9th congressional district. Soto got 36percent of the votes in a primary that was four-way. The district is a Democratic-leaning one and covers all of Osceola county and portions of Orange and Polk counties. Soto has been a part of the majority of this district during his tenure on his position in the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. In the Orlando Sentinel endorsed him in the primary, calling Soto as an “effective lawmaker.” Soto was the winner of the general race for the seat, over Republican Wayne Liebnitzky, 57-43 percent.
Soto holds a bachelor’s degree in economics. He also was a student at the law school of George Washington University. The year 2006 saw him appointed counsel for the class in the federal class lawsuit filed on behalf of Hispanic citizens against the City of Kissimmee in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
In 2012, Florida Senate districts were redrawn, and Soto opted not to run for re-election in the House but instead to run for the newly created 14th District, which included predominantly Latino areas of Orange, Osceola, and Polk Counties. He won his party’s nomination uncontested and faced Republican Will McBride. Soto defeated McBride with over 70% of the vote.
In 2013, Soto voted for legislation to expedite driver’s license access for DREAMers but it was ultimately vetoed by Governor Rick Scott, setting off statewide protests. He unsuccessfully proposed an amendment to require jury votes of 10 jurors rather than a majority of 7 for death penalties.”
As of 2006 Soto was a candidate for Florida House of Representatives from the 40th District, unsuccessfully challenging incumbent Andy Gardiner. Then, in the month of April 2007, Soto came out winner of a highly competitive Democratic primary in the special election to succeed John Quinones, who had left to run for Osceola County Commission. The general elections saw Soto was defeated by Tony Suarez who was the Republican candidate, with 285 votes. Soto was elected with a majority in both 2008 and in the year 2010.

Darren Michael Soto (born February 25 1978) is a American lawyer also a Democratic political figure from Orlando, Florida, who is the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 9th district. He was defeated by Republican Wayne Liebnitzky in the general election of 2016 by a margin of by 57-43 percent. Before being elected as a member of Congress, Soto served for four years in the Florida Senate and for five years in the Florida House of Representatives, covering parts of the Orlando region.
Soto is a native of the city in Ringwood, New Jersey, to the Puerto Rican father, O. Lou Soto, and an Italian-American mother Jean Soto. Between 1998 and 2001, he worked at Prudential Insurance in finance while studying at college. He graduated with the Bachelor of Arts degree in 2000 from Rutgers University in 2000, as well as a Juris Doctor from George Washington University in 2004 after which he began his law practice next year.
He is tied for first for most laws passed by a freshman member of the 115th Congress. He also filed the second most bills of any freshman.
