Tordera was accepted into the University of Valencia in 2009 where he was working on light-emitting electrochemical cell (LECs). He identified the inexplicably operating mechanism of LECs, and dramatically improved the performance that these cells provide. He was an invited scientist at the University of California, Santa Barbara and applied his research on conjugated polyelectrolytes. Then, he started a business to commercialize products based on his research. He was a part of at the University of Linkoping to research the thermal and optical properties of nanoparticles of plasmonic origin. He was involved in the creation of the plasmonic thermoelectric device the photoconductive paper and plasma display, among others. The researcher is currently research scientist at the Holst Centre leading a team that is working on near-infrarred organic photodetectors. He has published more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and is the inventor of three patents.

Tordera was raised in Valencia where he studied chemical chemistry in Valencia’s University of Valencia and graduated in 2009. Then, he relocated to Strasbourg and earned the Material Science Engineers degree at the Ecole europeene de chimie, polymeres et materiaux. He completed the PhD from the University of Valencia in 2014 studying light-emitting electrochemical cells. He was researcher in the University of Linkoping, studying the physics of photonics and plasmonic materials. He is currently a researcher at the Holst Centre (TNO) in Eindhoven.

2015 – Outstanding Doctorate Award by the Universidad de Valencia.
