Byers started his 2010-11 season with Hartford In 16 games, he scored nine points and three goals. On the 11th of November, 2010 the Rangers transferred Byers for the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Chad Kolarik.
On July 5, 2012, the Edmonton Oilers signed Dane Byers to a one-year, two-way contract. He was assigned to the Oilers’ AHL affiliate, the Oklahoma City Barons, to begin the 2012–13 season. On April 2, 2013, he was traded to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Garrett Stafford.
On June 26, 2013, despite no contract extension with Washington, Byers signed a one-year contract to remain with the Capitals’ AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears.
Byers had to miss the bulk of the season 2008-09 due to knee injuries sustained during a match in his team the Worcester Sharks on October 31 in 2008. Through nine contests, Byers had four goals and seven points. Byers began his hockey career as a junior in his team the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL in 2002-03, when He scored 14 and eight goals points over 49 games. Byers was back with the Raiders in 2003-2004, where he scored 17 points and nine goals in 51 games. Later, the player scored a goal as well as three points from six playoff matches. Byers played in 65 games for the Raiders in 2004-05and scored 20 points and scoring 11 goals and collecting 181 penalty minutes. Byers experienced a great playoff campaign scoring four goals and ten points in just 17 games. Byers made a splash offensively in the 2005-06 season scoring 51 points and 21 goals over seven games, but the Raiders were not able to make playoffs.

Seven playoff matches, Byers scored two goals. Byers was back in Hartford during the 2007-08 season. the team scored 43 points and 23 goals in the 73 games. Through five games in the playoffs, Byers had a goal and three points. Byers Also made an NHL debut in the 2007-08 NHL season, and was pointless during one game played by The New York Rangers.
The Blue Jackets assigned Byers to the AHL’s Springfield Falcons, where he had nine goals and 25 points in 48 games. Byers was once again on the move, as on February 28, 2011, Byers and Rostislav Klesla were traded from the Blue Jackets to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Scottie Upshall and Sami Lepistö. As a result of the mid-season trades, Byers was able to set an AHL record for most games played in a season, with 84. But, on July 11, 2011, he was signed to go back to the Jackets. On January 16, 2012, Byers was given a three-game suspension by the NHL for an illegal check to the head of Andrew Desjardins during a game against the San Jose Sharks on January 14, 2012.
